Work to create new homes set to get under way

WORK will get under way in early 2026 on the transformation of Richard Stannard House in Blyth into residential apartments.
The work is part of the £95m Energising Blyth Programme to improve the town.
Located on Bridge Street, 16 high quality apartments will be delivered by converting currently underutilised commercial space.
This will include nine one-bedroom and seven two-bedroom apartments, three of which will be fully accessible properties designed to support independent living for residents with additional mobility needs.
The works align with the plan of the scheme to repurpose rundown and empty homes into high-quality affordable housing to rent and convert under-occupied offices into new apartments which will improve energy efficiency in social housing and support the establishment of an Empty Homes Team.
Bridge Street has been under works of improvement since 2023 as it is the main bus vehicle and pedestrian route into the town centre from the quayside area, making Richard Stannard House another step to fulfil the goal for Blyth to be a thriving UK and international centre of renewable energy and advanced manufacturing growth and innovation by 2030.
