We've been cheated of justice for my dad

THE son of murdered Gary Belfield has revealed how he feels cheated of justice after one of his dad's young killers died in custody.

- SOPHIE DOUGHTY

Father-of-six Gary died after he was repeatedly stabbed during an attack at his Gateshead home, during which his son Luke Williams was also seriously injured.

Teenagers Jordan Tams, Leandro Lopes and Kriesha Stroud were all jailed for life in January after being convicted of murder and attempted murder at Newcastle Crown Court.

But last week it was revealed that 18-year-old Tams had died while being held at Deerbolt Young Offenders Institution, near Barnard Castle, County Durham.

Luke, who remains tortured by the fact he could not save his dad during the attack, was told of the murderer's death by police. And now the 23-year-old has lifted the lid on his family's mixed emotions at learning that one of his dad’s killers would not be serving their sentence.
