Vital to teach our children about every aspect of AI
The Journal
|May 15, 2025
SINCE the release of ChatGPT in late 2022, AI has become one of the most talked-about tools in common parlance.
Just as Hoover is the ubiquitous name for all vacuums, even though many people are using a Dyson to do the ‘hoovering, Chat-GPT is the go-to name for most of us to encompass the whole range of generative AI tools that are around. Although we may be using Microsoft CoPilot, Google Gemini, Apple Intelligence or DeepSeek from China as a default on our phones and devices we lump them all in together when we talk of them.
Technology in education has undergone a radical transformation in the last decade. Even so, schools are still lagging behind industry where it is projected that by the end of 2026 90% of workplaces will be using their own version of a generative AI tool for some processes according to award-winning author and speaker Julia Hobsbawm. AI can inspire creativity and aid learning but it can also lead to over-reliance on it and a lack of critical evaluation or even ethical misuse.
