Tributes to councillor who made a difference

MOVING tributes have been paid after the death of a long-serving former Sunderland councillor.

Peter Gibson dedicated many years to public service, championing the needs of others, especially within the Silksworth ward where he represented Labour.

Mr Gibson, who secured his council seat for the first time in 1986, was an active member on numerous committees and external organisations, and also served as the Mayor of Sunderland.

He retired from the council two years and died last month at the age of 84.

During the most recent full meeting of Sunderland City Council, the assembly announced the former councillor’s death.
