Stockdale hails U21 challenges

NEWCASTLE United's academy prospects must make the most of the challenges they will face as they compete in several competitions over the course of the season.

That was the verdict of interim Under-21s coach Robbie Stockdale as he prepares to take charge for the final time in tonight's Premier League 2 game with their Birmingham City counterparts.
The former Middlesbrough and Bradford City defender was placed in temporary charge of the United second string following the departure of Diarmuid O'Carroll to Czech First League club Sparta Prague in June.
However, former Manchester United academy coach Adam Lawrence has now been named as permanent successor to the Irishman and Stockdale will act as his assistant when his reign gets underway next week.
