Staff praised after care home collision
The Journal
|July 15, 2025
STAFF who helped elderly residents in the aftermath of a tragic collision at their care home have been praised.
Two elderly residents from Highcliffe Care Home, in Sunderland, died after a car ploughed into their home last Wednesday. Eight residents were taken to hospital after the collision while others were evacuated to other homes.
Two men have since appeared in court accused of robbery and kidnap, while police say an investigation into the women's deaths is ongoing.
And the company that runs the home has thanked staff for the way they supported residents after the tragedy.
