Social media ban a good start, now let's stop scrolling

HALLELUJAH!

- Carrie Carlisle

The House of Lords has voted in favour of a ban on social media for under-16s.No child needs a social media account. Not a single one.

My poker face is terrible, so I literally have to hide my fizzog behind things, when a parent-friend tells me their child has one.

So my expression does not say any of the following things:

■ Why is your 12-year-old on social media? Are you insane?

■ Would you let them have recreational drugs?

■ Have you ever considered gifting them a gun?

■ Would you ever let them spend time alone with someone who was on the sex offenders register?

■ How can you possibly think this will end well?

Because, if you ask me, letting a child loose on social media is akin to all of the above, and possibly all at the same time.

I work as an online presenter, which means spending time on social media sites is mandatory.

And let me tell you, the adult nature of the content that pops up on my feed scares me; a 45-year-old who spent years working downstairs from Babestation...

The Nazi-centric nonsense that I see, over and over again. Blatant misogyny. Gratuitous violence.
