BORN Ruler is one to stay on the right side of in the Racing TV Zet-land Gold Cup Handicap at Redcar.

His trainer Sir Mark Prescott has not saddled the winner of this 10-furlong contest since Forward Rally triumphed in 1986, but Born Ruler looked to enjoy the perfect prep run when having his first outing for 288 days earlier this month.

The five-year-old was sent off a 20-1 shot at Newmarket, edging back to nine furlongs after previously racing over 10 furlongs and further in 2024.

He looked a bit ring rusty on his return, giving himself some ground to make up after a tardy start prior to making some reasonable headway before his lack of a recent run told in the finish.
