NINE people were arrested and a haul of substances have been seized within one day as police zoned in on a North East borough.

Raids were carried out at two properties in the Teams area as Northumbria Police and partner agencies teamed in a crackdown on criminality in Gateshead.

Officers raided a property on Queens Court, where a small amount of anabolic steroids and white powder was seized. Several phones, including two burner phones, and around £1,000 in notes were discovered.

A warrant was also executed at a premises on Lobley Hill Road. A woman in their 30s was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and a haul of products were seized and will be sent for testing.
