A DEBATE in the House of Commons on the future of two projects to upgrade notorious Northumbrian roundabouts has been branded “pointless” by a senior Conservative councillor.

'Pointless' debate over roundabouts

Last Tuesday saw the long-awaited revamps for Moor Farm and Seaton Burn roundabouts debated in Westminster Hall.

Led by Cramlington and Killingworth MP Emma Foody, the discussion saw Future Roads Minister Lillian Greenwood admit that the “challenges” posed by the congested roundabouts “needs to be addressed”. However, no funding was promised - leading to an angry reaction from Tory deputy leader Coun Richard Wearmouth.

Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Coun Wearmouth said: “I’m pleased that Emma Foody is giving it her attention, but I just don’t see the point. It is another talking shop - what is it producing?
