Overnight station closure has not hit service – fire chief
The Journal
|December 03, 2025
TYNE and Wear's chief firefighter has reassured the public that fire and rescue services remain “robust and resilient” since a 2024 decision to close Wallsend Fire Station overnight.
-
Regional chief fire officer Peter Heath has told North Tyneside councillors the effect of closing Wallsend Fire Station from 6pm to 8am has been “marginal”, amounting to just seconds in terms of response times.
This update comes following public and political outcry last year leading up to the decision to ultimately close the station during those times.
