Notes of hope on anniversary

THE second anniversary of the Sycamore Gap tree's felling has been marked with a ‘song of hope.

Following the incident two years ago tomorrow, there was an outcry of grief that was felt far beyond Northumberland, with the tree considered a symbol of the county.

In July this year, Daniel Graham and Adam Carruthers were jailed for more than four years for chopping it down.

As an emotional response to the events of September 2023, schoolteacher Kathryn Davidson was inspired to write ‘My Tree’ which is now being sung in schools to mark the second anniversary of the criminal act.
