NEWCASTLE eventer Jack Mantel was left lost for words after enjoying a memorable debut at the iconic Defender Burghley Horse Trials.
-
The 30-year-old and steed Jack Daniels combined to score 38.0 on day two of the famed horse trials at Stamford’s Burghley House.
For Mantel, it was tangible proof of progress for just how far he and the 11-year-old gelding have come during what is only their first season at 5*.
“I'm really pleased with his performance, he gota little bit ahead of me in the canter work but he's such a trier and we're still quite new to the level,” said Mantel.
“It’s only our second 5* and first Burghley so I’m pleased with the performance overall.
“It's amazing. I've been here a few times and always wanted to compete here so it’s truly special.
