Newcastle close in on first signing of summer

NEWCASTLE United are moving ever closer to their first signing of the summer after submitting an improved offer for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.
After an initial £45m bid was rejected last month, The Journal understands an improved £50m offer had been put to the City Ground outfit, via intermediaries, earlier this week. The latest move sees the total package stand at £55m when potential bonuses are taken into account.
The Journal understands personal terms are not yet agreed between Newcastle and the 23-year-old, who is under contract at Forest until 2028, but that aspect is not expected to be an issue.
