A NEW student accommodation block will be built on an abandoned construction site just outside Newcastle city centre.

Councillors have backed new plans to develop a plot on the corner of Argyle Street and New Bridge Street, near Manors Metro station.
The derelict site has been vacant for around two years, with work having stopped on a previous housing plan, and Newcastle City Council's planning committee heard on Friday how it had fallen into a "very poor state".
The Tyneside Group won permission for 24 houses on the land in 2019, but went into liquidation earlier this year.
