More police in city centre in response to protests

THERE will be a heightened police presence in Newcastle city centre in the coming days in response to planned protests.

Northumbria Police confirmed that officers were aware of protest plans in the area and were in contact with event organisers.

It comes after Crowne Plaza hotel, which is owned by Newcastle City Council, cancelled a planned conference that it is understood would have seen the launch of a new political party, Advance UK, which is backed by Tommy Robinson and Elon Musk.
