'Master butcher' served village for seven decades
The Journal
|September 02, 2025
A WELL-KNOWN Northumberland butcher who served the community for 70 years has died.
Alan Green, 86, was a popular face with customers at his family-run business, R G Green, in Longframlington.
Despite retiring, Alan never truly stopped working and was at the shop working just four weeks before he passed away. His son, Chris Green, who also works as a butcher in the family business, said: "He has been in the butchery trade for about 70 years.
"He wasn’t just a popular face with customers, I recall going to trade fairs up and down the country and he was recognised by a lot of people. He was well-known in the area and beyond."
