DEVELOPMENT work has now begun on the setting for a major new theme park which is set to be a 'flagship' for the region when it opens in 2026.

Kynren's new show is preparing to take flight

The new attraction - described as the UK’s first live-action historical theme park - is coming to the site of Kynren in County Durham. And the time-travelling park, called The Storied Lands, is promising to be a “spectacular” daytime addition to the famous evening event.

Award-winner Kynren, the epic open-air live action show which brings to fast and furious life episodes from across 2,000 years of history and legend, plays out on Saturday nights every summer on its 7.5-acre Bishop Auckland site which is around 30 miles and a 50-minute drive from Newcastle. Now that planning approval has been obtained - which Kynren chief executive officer Anna Warnecke calls a “momentous step forward” - the first phase of work on its expansion is now under way.
