'It's as clear a penalty as I've seen' says bewildered Eddie Howe

Howe believes the challenge Trevoh Chalobah made on Anthony Gordon was a “clear error and clear penalty”.Newcastle were 2-1 up when the England internationals collided in the penalty area. Referee Andy Madley did not award a penalty, and VAR Peter Bankes confirmed the call.

The Premier League Match Centre said that “the contact from Chalobah on Gordon [was] deemed to be side-to-side in a shielding action and the ball within playing distance”.

Asked about Newcastle's multiple penalty shouts, Howe said: “I thought the Anthony Gordon one was the standout one. Anywhere else on the pitch, it's a blatant free-kick. A clear error and clear penalty.
