Hjem to open pop-up at hotel

NORTHUMBERLAND'S first Michelin-starred restaurant has announced a residency at a popular County Durham hotel.

Restaurant Hjem will serve its final courses in its current location in the Hadrian Hotel on New Year's Eve, before making the move.

It will open its six-month popup restaurant at the South Causey Inn from early February 2026.

Set in 100 acres of countryside in the heart of the Beamish Valley, the family-run hotel and restaurant is known for its warm welcome and local feel.

The move will see Hjem's head chef Alex Nietosvuori, his wife and restaurant manager Ally Thompson-Nietosvuori, and their team relocate to standalone building The Farmhouse on the South Causey site.

Meanwhile, work is continuing on Freyja a purpose-built restaurant under construction at Close House in Wylam.
