FORMER Newcastle United footballer Joey Barton has been arrested in relation to an alleged serious assault.

Barton, 43, was one of two men taken into custody on suspicion of section 18 wounding after reports of a man being attacked near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club, in Merseryside.
