'Don't litter, don't light fires and don't illegally camp'

THE public have been urged to avoid campfires at a popular Northumberland beach after a huge fire broke out in the sand dunes.

Four crews from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) were called out on Sunday to tackle the major blaze at Druridge Bay.

The fire service has said the fire was caused by an "out of control" campfire.

Northumberland Labour leader Coun Scott Dickinson, who represents the Druridge Bay ward, urged the public to respect the natural environment.

He said: "I have been saying this all year and continue to do so - use the sites that we have provided. You can enjoy Druridge Bay from the country park and the campsite where it is safely managed and the there are facilities.
