DAD and his teenage daughter had to be rescued from a flaming car after a crash in Gateshead.

- OWEN YOUNGER

There were dramatic scenes after the collision, which took place at around 7.20pm on the evening of Saturday, November 8 on Carr Hill Road.

The pair, who were heading to the nearby Tesco Express for some sweets, were stuck in the vehicle, with the girl being helped out after kicking the passenger door open, and the dad had to be freed from the car due to the engine block pushing down on his legs. They were both then taken to hospital by paramedics.

In footage sent from the scene, large flames engulf the front of the vehicle, and similar photos show Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service firefighters on the scene having helped the terrified duo escape a very dangerous situation.
