Castle to reopen partially to public following outcry

A MEDIEVAL castle which was closed in a shock move earlier this year has partially re-opened to the public.

The Outer Ward of Prudhoe Castle is open once again seven days a week for no charge.

English Heritage announced that Prudhoe Castle would not fully reopen in April as low visitor numbers meant the site was considered unsustainable.

It was one of three of English Heritage’s 28 sites across Northumberland the charity sought “a new way to operate,’ with the other two being Aydon Castle, near Corbridge, and Brinkburn Priory, near Rothbury.
