Borough is facing ‘crisis’ in childcare

GATESHEAD is facing a childcare crisis with severe staffing shortages and ongoing challenges related to recruitment and retention.

According to a Gateshead Council report, 94% of childcare providers agree there is a “crisis” in the sector.

There are increasing concerns among private, voluntary and independent childcare operators. A survey quoted within the local authority's report found:
