Bomb squad called to stricken boat after rescue

THE bomb squad was called to a Tynemouth beach after concerns were raised by rescuers about items on board a stricken boat.

Tynemouth and Cullercoats RNLI teams, the coastguard and Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade were initially called to King Edward's Bay at around 8pm on Wednesday to reports of a boat drifting "dangerously close" to the rocks.
