Airport's revenues take off – with more to come

NEWCASTLE Airport has posted rising revenues as it targets significant growth in coming years.

The airport - which is celebrating a record-breaking summer holiday period - has published accounts for 2024 which show passenger numbers reached 5.21m, up from 4.88m a year earlier. The boost came on the back of a fifth aircraft with Tui and the return of scheduled flights to pre-pandemic levels.

Total revenue grew 13% to £89.5m, while operating profit also jumped 13% to £38.5m.

A report within the accounts signed off by the board highlights traffic revenue increases of 19%, and a 12% rise in income from commercial activities, boosted by the extension of the departure lounge, the opening of a number of new food and drink outlets and the redevelopment of the airport's executive lounge. The commercial income includes revenue from the airport's shops and catering facilities, which are run as concessions with third party operators, and car parking.
