Vesak amnesty for fraudster: CIABOC probe to be sought

The Committee for Protecting Rights of Prisoners (CPRP) will today (11) formally request the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to initiate an inquiry into an allegation that some prisons officers took advantage of a presidential pardon granted to 388 prisoners to release a convicted fraudster named W.H. Athula Tillekaratne on the sly.
Attorney-at-Law Senaka Perera, Executive Director of the CPRP, told The Island that after having considered the available information they decided to seek the CIABOC's intervention to ensure proper examination of the bribery aspect in the unprecedented investigation.
