Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament yesterday (18) that security forces had seized more than 20 tonnes of narcotics since 01 January, marking one of the country’s largest drug interdiction tallies in recent years.

Speaking during the Committee Stage debate of the 2026 Budget, the Minister said the government’s Ratama Ekata anti-drug campaign was yielding results, crediting the tri-forces—particularly the Sri Lanka Navy—for disrupting major trafficking routes. H
