Five die after falling off overcrowded train in Mumbai

Five commuters died after falling off an overcrowded train in Mumbai. It was heading to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) near Mumbra on Monday (June 9, 2025), PTI reported.
According to initial information received, due to overcrowding the passengers were hanging into the train gates and a push or jostle caused around 13 passengers to fall onto the tracks, resulting in five fatalities.
The railway administration and police reached the spot and the injured were taken to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, police are investigating the accident.”
Travel by trains is the most popular mode of travel in India's business capital. Mumbai's population is 12.7 million. The suburban railway operates 2,342 train services and carries more than 7.5 million commuters daily. This means every second Mumbai resident commutes by trains. Therefore, they are invariably overcrowded.
