Taxi drivers break new dress code

The numbers of taxi drivers in North Ayrshire not adhering to the dress code has almost doubled since the rules were relaxed, the Licensing Committee heard.

And cabbies who fail to comply with the Licensing Board dress code will only get one warningand if caught again will be hauled in front of the committee.

That was the message from Drew Robertson, Civic Licensing Standards Officer.

Following the Licensing Committee meeting in September 2024, councillors approved amendments to the Dress Code.

Licence holders must not wear a hat, cap, baseball style cap, beanie hat or any other head-wear while driving the vehicle when under hire or plying for hire.

Trousers must be full length dress style with belt hoops and skirts must be of plain dark colours and not highly patterned.
