Kilwinning Rangers missed out on promotion to the West of Scotland Premier Division in agonising fashion after being held to a final day draw at home to St Roch’s.

The Buffs went into the clash knowing only a win would do the trick - but that had to be coupled with either Rutherglen Glencairn or Renfrew dropping points.

The hosts spurned a number of chances, and had two goals disallowed, before Josh McGrillen fired the visitors into a 70th minute lead.

Kilwinning were handed a late lifeline when they were awarded an injury-time penalty, which Jack McMahon duly converted.

But they were unable to find a winner, which would have seen them return to the WoSFL top flight as Renfrew suffered defeat at home to Petershill.
