Shabana Mahmood is a woman with all the wrong friends.
Conservatives such as Michael Gove love the home secretary, and some of her more socially conservative policy positions would not be out of place on the edgier end of the right of British politics. She is about as hardline on immigration as any Labour minister could realistically be, and obviously more attuned to public opinion than most of her colleagues — for better or worse. However, she’s in some danger of overdoing it...
