Scottish brothers set record for 9,000-mile Pacific row
The Independent
|August 31, 2025
Three Scottish brothers have set a new world record for the fastest human-powered Pacific Ocean crossing.
Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan Maclean arrived in Cairns, Australia, yesterday at 11.52 am local time [12.52 GMT].
Their 139-day, five-hour and 52-minute journey makes the Edinburgh-born team the first ever to row from South America to Australia. This feat surpasses the previous record of 159 days, 16 hours and 58 minutes, set by Russian Fedor Konyukhov in 2014, who rowed 7,393 miles.
Arriving on Australian shores following their 9,000-mile journey, the Scots were reunited with more than 50 family and friends who made the trip from the UK, including mum Sheila.
Middle brother Jamie, 31, said all he wanted upon landing was a pizza - calling the journey the most “incredible, relentless and often surreal experience” of his life.Diese Geschichte stammt aus der August 31, 2025-Ausgabe von The Independent.
