Kidnappers demand $6m for return of star's mother
The Independent
|February 09, 2026
A ransom note from the kidnappers of the mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie reportedly demands $6m and threatens Nancy Guthrie’s life if a 1700 local time [0000 GMT] deadline today for payment is not met.
That development came after investigators were seen parked outside of Savanna’s sister Annie’s home in Tucson, reports NewsNation. Officers were seen carrying brown bags and blue gloves after more than three hours inside.
The ransom note, meanwhile, was sent this week to CNN affiliate KGUN, which is based in Tucson, Arizona, where the 84-year-old was last seen on 31 January.
"Law enforcement has not confirmed the ransom amount referenced in the letter," KGUN wrote on X.
KGUN and other outlets have previously reported receiving alleged ransom notes demanding millions of dollars in Bitcoin to free Nancy.
In a video from Savannah and her siblings released on Saturday, the broadcaster addressed her mother's kidnappers, saying the family had "received your message" and "will pay".
