MUM GIVES STATEMENT AS INQUEST HEARS HOW POLICE OFFICER TOOK HIS OWN LIFE
A much-loved Huddersfield man described as 'clever, funny, kind and caring' died in tragic circumstances just weeks after becoming a dad.
Charlie Mitchell, who was 26, who grew up in Huddersfield, was a serving police officer with West Yorkshire Police and had just become a father for the first time, an inquest heard. His mum, Shirley, described Charlie as the perfect son.
"Charlie was clever, funny, kind and caring and had the respect of others. He was perfect," she said in a statement at an inquest into her son's death.
She said Huddersfield-born Charlie had grown up in Longwood, Huddersfield, had attended Salendine Nook High before passing all his A-Levels at the town’s Greenhead College. He had gone on to do a degree course in criminology at Manchester Metropolitan University and joined the police in October 2022 and was based in Halifax.
