Gooch urges Town to stay calm in push for promotion

HUDDERSFIELD Town right-back Lynden Gooch has urged his side to “stay calm” in their bid to secure promotion from League One this season.

Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers has left the Terriers eighth in the division, on 19 points from 12 matches played, five points adrift of the playoff places.

Town had targeted an immediate return to the Championship last term, but after getting themselves into a promising position by the turn of the year, the Terriers fell away drastically in the second half of the season to leave them with a ten-placed finish.

The club have since rebuilt their squad by making 14 summer signings with Gooch one of their new recruits as they aim to have a successful campaign this time around.

Town started this season strongly, with four wins from their opening five League One matches, but have taken seven points from their last seven games to leave them outside the top six.

Discussing the task ahead for his side this term, the 29-year-old said at a press conference leading into the Bolton fixture: “I think we just need to stay calm.
