City slicker as Town crash out
The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
|September 25, 2025
HUDDERSFIELD Town were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the third-round stage with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Accu Stadium last night.
A goal in each half from Phil Foden and Savinho saw the Premier League side deservedly book their place in the next round of the competition.
The Terriers were unable to claim a third successive scalp in this season's Carabao Cup, having seen off higher-league opponents Leicester City and Sunderland in the previous two rounds.
Town manager Lee Grant opted to make seven changes from the 0-0 draw at home to Burton Albion on Saturday, with Lee Nicholls, Lasse Sorensen, Josh Feeney and David Kasumu the four players to retain their place in the side.
Meanwhile, City boss Pep Guardiola made nine alterations to the team that drew 1-1 at Arsenal on Sunday, as Nico O'Reilly and Foden remained in their starting lineup.
Eight-time League Cup winners City dominated from the outset, with the Premier League visitors pinning Town back in their own half from the early stages.
Young forward Divine Mukasa had the first opportunities for the away side, having a shot blocked inside the box, while the striker also had a header saved by Nicholls from a corner.
