Yelverton youngsters have productive week
The Herald
|November 21, 2024
THE youngsters from Yelverton, Annie and Megan Woock, took on Julia Whetton and Ann Short in Ladies B in the first of three matches in a week for them.
It was a windy night and the experienced Julia and Ann started well but, with increasing match play experience, Megan and Annie secured the win 6-3, 6-1, 6-0.
In their second match, Annie and Megan were just too strong for Jo Katz and sub Helen Wright winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 and they made it three from three with a third game in six days against Libby Allman and Debbie Theophilius.
This turned out to be a game with lots of long rallies but the youngsters came out on top 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. They remain unbeaten this season with maximum points.
Jo Katz played her first match of the season alongside sub Suzanne Sykes and they were too strong for Hilary Broadley and Karen Robinson winning 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.
Megan Gore and Jen Kothari were 6-5, 6-4, 6-2 winners against Angela Wright and Caroline Abernethy before Angela and Caroline took on Libby Allman and Debbie Theophilius in what turned out to be an old firm derby match.
Libby and Debbie took the first set with accuracy and excellent serving, but Angela and Caroline fought back to win by one game and take the bonus points 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
