LAUNCESTON MAN JAILED FOR NINE YEARS

- By OLIVIER VERGNAULT

Victim of rapist 'living in anxiety'

James Amery, 35, has been sentenced to prison for 9 years

(DEVON AND CORNWALL POLICE)

THE victim of a vile rapist has bravely spoken of the impact the sex attack has had on her for years.

James Amery was convicted by a jury of one count of rape and of two of sexual assault against a woman early in 2022 at an address in Cornwall following a trial at Truro Crown Court last week.

His sentencing hearing heard how his victim was left to live in fear and in a heightened state of anxiety for years. She said that what happened to her has made her distrust people and even change her habits and hobbies.

"I was not able to talk about what happened to my close friends," she said in a victim impact statement.
