Teachers strike over 'excessive' workloads

TEACHERS at a city school have taken the first of six days of industrial action in protest over their workload and hours.

Plympton Academy was closed to all but Year 11 and Year 13 students and those students classed as vulnerable or whose parents are key workers.

Members of the NASUWT are striking over what they describe as the school leadership’s failure to address excessive working hours and workloads. A union spokesman said the school leadership's failure to address issues was affecting well-being of teaching staff.

They said: The current arrangements for managing teachers’ working hours are driving up the workload and undermining teachers’ professionalism.”

Plympton Academy says it is committed to providing the best working environment for its staff and has been working with the NASUWT to address issues.
