COMMUNITY GROUP HELPED BY ROYAL MARINES
-
THIS year being the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, the ladies of one Plymouth village decided that this Remembrance Sunday should also be marked in a special way... and so they got knitting.
The women of Bickleigh, a community group nicknamed locally as ‘the Bickleigh Lovelies’, gathered up their knitting and crochet needles to create a beautiful decorative cover for an ancient tree on their village green.
And local Royal Marines, of 42 Commando based at nearby Bickleigh Barracks, also chipped in – donating a large camouflage net on which to tie all the poppies!
“It was inspired by the beautiful wave of poppies created in London,” says Jenny Plant, one of the ‘Bickleigh Lovelies’.
