WELCOME NEWS AS CITY BIDS TO BECOME UK CITY OF CULTURE

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

Record-breaking year for The Box

IT has been a record-busting year for Plymouth’s £47m museum and art gallery The Box, with the Beryl Cook exhibition helping towards a bumper half-term for visitors.

The 2025/26 year is now already the city centre attraction’s busiest on record - and there are still six months to go in this financial year.

The award-winning venue has welcomed 278,820 visits so far, surpassing its previous annual record of 272,266 - welcome figures as Plymouth bids to become UK City of Culture 2029.

The attendance milestone reflects the huge popularity of its current exhibitions and family-friendly events, with February proving particularly strong.

The Box experienced its five busiest days on record last week, peaking on Thursday, February 19, with 3,685 visits.

It was also its busiest-ever week with 20,233 visits - well above the previous weekly high of 15,725.
