Parkway splash out on new goalkeeper
The Herald
|February 07, 2025
FRESH from the first player sale in the club's history last week, Plymouth Parkway have used some of the funds from Dylan Jones' transfer to Championship side Norwich City to recruit a regular first choice goalkeeper that they hope will solve a long-standing issue at Bolitho Park.
Alex Rutter has joined for an undisclosed fee from National South side Salisbury City, making him the first player to ever be bought for a transfer fee by Parkway in their 37-year history. It is a much needed deal as well with the 23-year-old becoming the eighth goalkeeper used by the club this year.
"It's been a priority to bring in a regular keeper after Ewan (Griffiths) returned to Cardiff," said manager Chris McPhee. "With Matt (Wannacott) unfortunately breaking his arm, we needed a permanent solution.
"Luke (McCormick) has been fantastic in stepping up, his penalty heroics last Saturday were exceptional, but securing Alex is a huge boost for us. He is hard-working, with safe hands and good distribution. He's exactly what we need at this crucial stage."
Rutter will face a baptism of fire on debut as Parkway head to league leaders Merthyr Town tomorrow, but that was not the only news to come from Bolitho this week with 24-yearold defender Taylor Scarff committing his future to the club and signing a contract until the end of next season.
