'One of the world's finest musicians’ set to play at Stoke church

Lure of family ties to Plymouth and a love of the Westcountry keeps world renowned violinist Peter Fisher returning to play here again and again...

AFTER a concert in the Albert Hall The Times critic hailed Peter Fisher as one ‘in a handful of the world’s finest musicians,’ such was his versatility.

He had just been jazzing at an anniversary celebration with Dame Cleo Lane and Sir John Dankworth, whose summer concert series Music in the Garden often featured Peter leading the Chamber Ensemble of London playing baroque, classical, romantic, folk music - not jazz so much but everything else a string ensemble can do from baroque and classical to romantic, modern and folk.

An admirer of his talent, John Dankworth composed a piece specially for him for a solo appearance in Wigmore Hall.

Peter’s Ensemble has played many London venues - the Purcell Room, St Martin-in-the-Fields, the V & A, County Hall, Kings Place, St James's Piccadilly, Wilton’s Music Hall - but his main career takes him all over the world both in orchestras and as soloist.

On three occasions he gave solo recitals across Canada. This year alone he has played with the Philharmonia in Finland, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Austria, China and Japan.

But Plymouth and the Westcountry constantly call him back. He had family here.

“T have many vivid childhood memories of long car journeys with my parents and older brother from Hemel Hempstead to Plymouth to visit our grandparents. They lived in Stoke and Honicknowle.
