FORMER OFFICE BLOCK TO BE APARTMENTS IN £24M PLAN

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

PLYMOUTH'S towering Moneycentre is to be turned into flats in a "bold" £24m regeneration. Manchester-based MCR Property Group has bought the city centre building in what is thought to be a multi-million-pound deal.

The new owner plans to turn the former office block, at Drake Circus opposite the University of Plymouth, into 105 "high-quality" apartments, which will be rented out to "students, young professionals and urban renters". MCR called it "part of a bold £24m regeneration initiative" and said the building will have a new name.

It said the project will see the tower "reimagined" into a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes, designed to meet growing demand from people seeking modern living in a "walkable, well-connected location". Construction is due to start in late 2025, with completion targeted for next year.

Beyond delivering much-needed homes, MCR has a broader strategy for the site, including a full rebrand and new identity that will "reflect Plymouth's coastal character, creative culture and independent spirit".
