‘MONSTER’ CATCH FOR DELIGHTED CITY ANGLER

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

A PLYMOUTH man has fulfilled a lifetime's ambition by catching a monster fish.

Mark Parker, from Oreston, landed a 12lbs bass at Mothecombe after a Hemingway-esque battle with the sea creature.

Any bass bigger than 7Ibs is considered huge - with anything over 10lbs a true behemoth.

Mark told The Herald the fish almost made off with his rod and reel and only his quick thinking saved him from losing hundreds of pounds worth of gear.

But after a titanic struggle - worthy of the one in Ernest Hemingway's famous novel The Old Man and the Sea - he was able to land the bass, though sadly it could not be returned to the waves.

It will, however, make many tasty meals and Mark has been inundated with requests for a piece of the fish.
