FEMALE VICTIM WAS AGED UNDER 14 AT TIME OF OFFENCES

- CARL EVE

Long prison sentence for repeat sex offender

A 32-year-old man deemed to be of a "very high risk of offending" has been handed a lengthy jail sentence.

Appearing at Plymouth Crown Court last Friday, February 28, Samuel Netley, whose address was given as care of HMP Dartmoor, was addressed by Judge Robert Linford.

Judge Linford reminded him he had pleaded guilty on December 3 to five counts he faced - but only after the second day of his trial and when his victim who was aged under 14 at the time of the offences - was preparing herself to give evidence against him.

The offences took place during August 2019 and September 2019 in Ivybridge and covered four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which had been made in Dorchester in 2016.

Netley, previously of Upton Pyne, Devon, and Bridgwater, Somerset, was told the order precluded him from engaging with any child.
