JO CLARKE PAYS DUE HOMAGE TO THE STUNNING SCENERY AROUND RAME HEAD

THIS image must present a familiar scene to many of us who have grown up in and around Plymouth.

It’s a photographic negative from The Box’s city and maritime heritage collection showing Rame Head, in Cornwall. It came into the city’s collection in 1985.

The dramatic coastal headland of Rame Head is located at the south eastern tip of the Rame peninsula. It's sometimes referred to as Cornwall’s ‘forgotten corner, but it’s much-loved by those of us who are lucky enough to be aware of it and have spent time there.

Jutting into the English Channel, Rame Head offers fantastic sweeping views across Whitsand Bay and Plymouth Sound. The medieval chapel of St Michael sits on top of the headland.
