THERE was finally a win for the ‘Golden Oldies’ Liz Gill and Pat Hexter, in Ladies C of the GA Solicitors MLTC Winter League, but only after a very hard fought game against Mary Barnett and Julia Dart.

The result was never a foregone conclusion and could have swung either way as shown by the two tiebreak sets. It took the full two hours for Liz and Pat to overcome the challenge and win 6-5, 6-5, 6-4, and they were very happy to win at last.
When league leaders Nichola Barraclough and Karen Harley played Victoria Roberts and Jane Williams, they proved too strong, winning 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 and they were also too good for Deborah Bauckman and Karen Johnstone winning 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.
Tamzin Gribble and Olga Rogers needed a third set decider to win their match against Julie Lees and Claire Walker 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 as both couples fought hard with some long deuce games.
Olga and Tamzin had another hard fought match with some long rallies when they played Victoria Roberts and Jane Williams. Olga and Tamzin won the first two sets, but as this was their second match of the day fatigue was setting in, and Vicky and Jane took the third as Olga and Tamzin won 6-4, 6-2, 5-6.
Deborah Bauckman and Karen Johnstone played Liz Gill and Pat Hexter on a windy and wet day before being abandoned at one set all. The final set was played again in strong winds with the ball being blown around. Deborah and Karen dug deep to win 6-4, 5-6, 6-2.
Nichola Barraclough and Karen Harley proved too strong for Deborah Bauckman and Karen Johnstone winning 6-2 6-1 6-2.
